Which phones will not support WhatsApp from 2020?

There will be changes to WhatsApp from February 2020. Indeed, the mobile application will no longer work on some smartphones. These are devices that work with Android 2.3.7 and iOS8 operating systems, as well as Windows Phone. The application will be functional on these smartphones until February 1, 2020 and it will then no longer be possible to launch a new account or update your account.

WhatsApp is a very accessible application. Even basic phones support the app. But WhatsApp regularly publishes a list of older phones for which support is discontinued.

As a result, the messaging application terminates its services on older systems, which means that users will not be able to create  any accounts or update existing accounts on older phones. In a post, WhatsApp explains that mobile phone users running Android version 2.3.7 and iOS8 will no longer be supported after February 1, 2020. And Windows Phone operating systems will no longer be operational next year. .

The reason for these decisions is that WhatsApp regularly adds new or other  features, some of which require powerful and latest  phones and new versions of Android and iOS to function properly. Features such as video embedded in chats or fingerprint authentication are resource intensive and require powerful phones with sufficient RAM and a newest  operating system. WhatsApp announced that some phones will not be able to support the added features in the future and that is why their support is discontinued.

"We will no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features may not work at any time. If you are currently using an older operating system, we recommend upgrading to a newer version… ”WhatsApp said.
