Semblance game Review
Renewing a genre like the platformer with an original concept is not an easy task. Semblance gets involved with a simple, but attractive concept: that of proposing puzzles based on the direct modification of your environment. And if our first impressions of it were still mixed, the end result turns out to be more pleasant than expected.
Semblance's proposition is simple: in the skin of a small spongy creature, you are responsible for breaking the curse that falls on the trees of a world in the style evoking a certain The Floor is Jelly. Here you have to wander from one area to another to join the different worlds and find all the spheres of the same area.
A SUCCESSFUL CONCEPT
Each sphere conceals an environmental mini-puzzle which involves using one of the two powers in your possession: the dash allows you to shape the environment by digging platforms, floors and ceilings, while a simple press on the B key suffices to return each element to its original shape and position. A simple system deepened by the presence of other elements that must be better understood to solve each mini-puzzle. Enemies to dodge, lasers to divert, beams to exploit to reset the shape of environmental elements or walls with multiple functions are among the many ideas appearing in each world, which offer us a frankly successful level design. The result is therefore particularly pleasant joystick in hand and has something to delight fans of the genre.LOOKING, NOT UNCHRAPPY
Unfortunately, Semblance occasionally gets its feet in the carpet because of a real lack of precision on the sequences of platforms. A problem sometimes linked to collision bugs, but above all due to the great freedom of experimentation left to players. Finding the solution to a riddle is generally not very difficult with a little common sense, the whole thing gets harder, however, as soon as it involves being agile or very precise in jumping. after trying to shape a wall or move a platform. It is indeed sometimes complex to determine if the non-success of a jump comes from our choices of modification of the environment or the physical engine a whimsical bit. On this point, the title still probably lacks a bit of clarity.DASH WASHER MORE BEAUTIFUL
We also regret that it loops so quickly, since it took us less than 5 hours to see the end. An honest number, but the title seemed to still have enough under the sole and leaves us with the feeling of a potential not fully exploited, despite good ideas. For the rest, difficult to blame him for much technically: fluid and colorful, Semblance is a technical and artistic success that amazes each setting, even if the proposal is probably not the most original for a title of its kind. Nothing that prevents it from making us appreciate the exploration of its levels, cradled by a soft soundtrack and there also pleasant. The notes
+ Positive points
A pleasant concept
Simple and cute aesthetic
Varied and inventive environmental puzzles
-Negative points
A bit short
Some collision bugs
Sometimes imprecise
Behind its cute and colorful universe, Semblance hides a well-thought-out concept, based on your ability to directly modify the elements of the decor. A simple idea that encourages experimentation and is accompanied by successful and varied environmental puzzles that we take pleasure in chaining. Unfortunately, it all closes in just a few hours, when the title seemed to have some more under the sole. In addition, it suffers from the presence of some collision bugs as well as the lack of precision of certain jumps, which tends to make certain passages unnecessarily more complex. If they didn't prevent Semblance from remaining a pleasant and good enough experience, the app could no doubt have claimed greater heights with a hint of tweaking.
