Life Is Strange 2: Episode 2 Review
Life is Strange 2: Episode 2: An epic that finally takes flightAfter a rather divisive first episode, we continue the road to Mexico in company of Sean and Daniel, our two heroes in spite of themselves, catapulted into a dark homicide case. After the death of their father and that of a policeman, they are on the run, innocent but desperately lonely and distrustful, while little Daniel develops telekinetic powers which he increasingly masters. This new episode therefore presents the continuation of their flight forward, in the most beautiful way possible ...
ON THE ROAD AGAIN…
Life is Strange 2: Episode 2: An epic that finally takes flightThe teaser of episode 2 introduced us to our heroes in the midst of power mastery training, Rey style in Star Wars 8. Indeed, our survivors of misfortune, accompanied by the faithful canine Mushroom, roam the winter forest and have taken up residence in an abandoned chalet. They survive it, braving the cold and gradually forming Daniel. Unfortunately the latter is sick and Sean will take the initiative to go to Beaver Creeks to meet their grandparents. Once there, it is a thorny situation which will present themselves to them: to remain in security “in family” or to leave, while knowing that they are always actively sought by the police and therefore should not deny their presence.

Only here, it is necessary that youth is done and Daniel like Sean cannot resist their desire for change. Mexico, their old life, the powers of Daniel, the mystery surrounding the events of Seattle, the life of their mother in this building: everything incites to break the rules put in place by the grandparents, concerned about their safety. In four long sequences, sometimes lasting more than an hour depending on your curiosity, we explore a squat, the house of the grandparents or the Christmas market.CAPTAIN SPIRIT ENTERS
Life is Strange 2: Episode 2: An epic that finally takes flightThis good old Captain Spirit, who had bought a free episode before Life is Strange 2, is therefore invited in the story of this second episode, which is more in a very clever way. Young Chris will play an important role in the story and will energize the duo, making the mechanics of choice ever more blurred, which is an excellent thing that makes the way in which we “educate” our little brother much less Manichean. Chris’s father also has his secrets and is one of those little stories to explore during the episode.

A PERFECTLY DOSED EPISODE
Life is Strange 2: Episode 2: An epic that finally takes flightWe will note during the episode an excellent balance between narration, adventure, interactions, choices and these little moments of calm, contemplative at will. The latter are quite numerous in the episode and we can only bow to the mastery of DONTNOD on the subject. Special mention to the long crossing of the forest, all in music, and especially to the song and guitar sequence, camped by the intriguing Cassidy. We can point the finger at certain sequences (especially in the squat) where it is absolutely necessary to find a precise object to advance the story, and where it will be very simple to turn in circles, but outside of that, everything happens naturally and very fluidly. The OST, mixing original compositions and music borrowed from the adventure of Captain Spirit, works very well and perfectly accompanies the journey of our two heroes. On the sound design side, however, there will be a lot of sound bugs in the second half of the episode. Problems probably corrected by the day one patch.
AND THE CHOICES IN EVERYTHING?
If the writing and the rhythm have improved, in the same way as the staging and the interactivity, there remains a section which had seriously made us doubt during episode 1: the consequences of our choices. On this new opus, it is still difficult to detect the impact of our choices on the main plot but we note a large variety of situations that arise directly from our actions in the episode. The purpose of all this remains to be determined but the episode offers a real implication, haloed by many interactions via the powers of Daniel. The notes
+ Positive points
An adventure that finally takes off in terms of structure and rhythm
In-depth gaining characters, including Sean
Varied and very pleasant sequences
Excellent OST
A big notion of choice with visible impacts within the episode
-Negative points
Some audio bugs or problems with repeating dialogues on the build tested
Major choices still difficult to assess
Life is Strange 2: Episode 2 is clearly a success which makes us forget a halftone introduction. Its atmosphere, its rhythm and its architecture finally arrive at the level that one expects from DONTNOD and we are only in a hurry: to know and explore the continuation of this forward flight.
