Desert Child game Review

Desert Child game Review

Desert Child is a racing game developed by the Australian studio Oscar Brittain and published by Akupara Games.

To be more precise, Desert Child is a hoverbike racing game. This independent game has a rather minimalist graphics but, I reassure you, a story and possibilities developed.

For those who are wondering what a hoverbike is, well, it is a vehicle invented by an Australian in 2012, it is a mixture of sea scooter with a helicopter. The creator of the hoverbike was looking to create the first flying motorcycle.

Introduction to Desert Child
We are at the end of the 21st century in Australia. If I understood correctly, the Earth is dying and everyone is looking to leave to settle on Mars ... you too.

You play an ordinary young man, nothing special and poor like everything. Your chances of going to Mars are zero, the price of a ticket is far too expensive for you. The solution ? Well, you've decided to take part in hoverbike races.

Your hoverbike is equipped with a weapon with about 20 rounds of ammunition and you also have a turbo. On the course, you will have to avoid turrets (you can destroy them with your weapon if you do not count your ammunition), obstacles to bypass and crates to destroy. These boxes can contain different things but mainly money.

Once your first race is completed, you return to the city where there are several stores such as a restaurant (remember that you are starving) and a garage specializing in hoverbikes (this is obviously to repair your vehicle).

Some points around the game
There are not only races where you can earn money to buy your ticket for March, you accept everything without much discussion, you are even ready to make pizza deliveries!

I tested Desert Child by playing alone, but it is possible to play two in local mode with a split screen. I guess when you play two, it’s two hungry young men who both dream of leaving for Mars ... whoever leaves will be the first to raise the money.

I appreciate the presence of the successes in Desert Child and for the cards, I have no doubt that they will be quickly accessible. However, what bothers me is having disabled screen prints with the F12 key and especially having also disabled screen copies with the dedicated Windows key. I don't understand the point of preventing screen copies !!!!

My conclusion
This independent game is very nice, even if I would have preferred to also have the possibility of customizing the character of the game, not only that of the hoverbike. Everyone likes it when there is maximum customization in a game.

Desert Child is available since December 11, 2018 on Steam (Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux). You can also find this game on different consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One).
