Why we should not use WhatsApp

App of the week: Why do we use WhatsApp?

WhatsApp: service (instant or immediate) and free telephone service if you are abroad but connected to wifi
In the same way as Messenger (Facebook), Hang Out or any other instant messaging software, WhatsApp is primarily used to be able to chat and make calls. Provided you are connected by wifi or with mobile data (3g, 4g) or have unlimited internet, WhatsApp above all allows you to send messages and make free and unlimited calls. It works a bit like iMessage on iPhone except that the rule applies to both iOS and Android owners, in short all smartphones. This is all the more practical if you are abroad and have access, for example, to your hotel's wifi and want to send messages without breaking the bank (especially photos) or making calls. Basic use of WhatsApp (messaging) is not very data intensive. This is not the case for other uses (telephone, videoconferencing, sending heavy attachments). Be careful though to check that you are not on the telephone network because your telephone bill could quickly go up. WhatsApp promises security and privacy with the ability to encrypt its data. Different from Facebook, unless the person or persons are hacked or maliciously (group chat) the risk is low.

A practical application if you have contacts abroad
It is also a handy application also if you have friends abroad or if you want to exchange with contacts abroad, especially since not all countries have unlimited internet like in France. All they have to do then is log into the app as well to avoid ruining each other during a conversation. Here again nothing exceptional compared to Facebook / Messenger which can perform the same function. Basic use of WhatsApp (messaging) is not very data intensive. This is not the case for other uses (telephone, videoconferencing, sending heavy attachments).

Group creation and facilitated exchanges
Another advantage of the application, it is easy to create a group and then use it (discussion, sharing of attachments and emoticons, stickers to share your mood in a light and direct way) because the users are always identified (the base) . There is a natural phenomenon with WhatsApp exchanging in this setting and everyone will be more likely to communicate than in traditional groups. This is all the more true in private groups in general, and especially family groups, where family photos are shared multiple times as well as videos. Note that groups represent one of the strengths of the application because they quickly identify the person from the message.

The ability to see if the person is online or has been or received your message
Another advantage of the application is that it allows you to see if your contact is online and therefore if they are using the application. It also allows you to see its last connection date and therefore you can know if it has been connected recently except for specific settings. While some very specific settings can prevent messages from being read, the application generally allows you to see if your message has been received. Note that this function is also available on Messeger with the "seen" function.

Simple transfer of attachments and access to history
If the application also works well, it is firstly because it allows easy sharing of content (video, photos), with just one click. Operation remains intuitive and is very easy to use. You can thus transfer both text messages, video clips, audio, or your geolocation). Files are not limited in size unlike MMS. Likewise, accessing the history is relatively easy on the application. WhattsApp limits the size of files sent and also does not accept all types of extensions, just to avoid overloading their servers. The maximum size allowed for sending a file is 100MB. Videos that are recorded using WhatsApp are limited to 16MB.

Saving discussions
When you also change your smartphone, saving the discussions allows you to automatically put the discussions back and so not to lose them, which would be the case, for example, if they are saved in the phone memory. It is done either physically on your mobile with a backup file, or through your email address.
