Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Review
The world of video games is not tender. You come across bloodthirsty monsters around each story and the slightest misstep can cost you your life. Fortunately, there are still a few islands of sweetness in this bully world. Our brave Kirby thus regularly returns to offer us a great whiff of good humor. You just have to see her plump figure, her pink complexion and her blissful smile to boost the morale of the most sad player. Like the previous ones, his new adventure fulfills its function as an antidepressant. It's been almost 20 years that the Kirby license has been on its way on Nintendo stamped consoles. Who would have bet a kopeck at the time on this little pink and plump hero with a fierce appetite? The series has nevertheless left its mark in the history of video games while knowing how to regularly update its recipe. The last two episodes thus constitute a nice example of this evolution: Au Fil de l'Aventure on Wii invited us in a totally crisp epic reserved for the youngest players, while Mass Attack on DS proved to us that unity is always strength and that it overcomes the most formidable pitfalls even when you have lost all your powers ... As much to warn you, Kirby's Adventure Wii is incredibly classic if we compare it to these two opus. And for good reason, it's been a while since this episode is in preparation on the side of HAL Laboratory: we were already waiting for it on Gamecube! Fans of the series have learned the hard way that patience is the mother of all virtues, but this expectation is not in vain since the game in question turns out to be a real success.
We will quickly move on to the scenario of this episode which could fit on a postage stamp: Kirby and his colleagues frolic quietly when they witness the crash of a strange spaceship. They go to the scene of the accident and discover a completely helpless little pilot: Magolor, since it is his name, will not be able to go home because some parts are missing. Listening only to his courage (and incidentally his empty stomach ...), Kirby therefore sets out to find these famous pieces scattered across five distinct universes. We end up with a Kirby all that is most classic on the form: we chain the levels in 2D by embodying this charming ball of chewing gum which has the capacity to swallow its opponents all round. He can then either spit them out or digest them to take over their powers. It is also able to swell with air to float in the sky. Finally, the handling of this Kirby will remind the regulars of the series that of Super Star Ultra. The range of capacities that it can thus recover is quite vast: there are of course some great classics such as the slicer, the radius or even the sword but some of these powers are also offered in a more impressive version. For example, instead of foolishly spitting out a few small flames, you can for a limited time summon a real flaming dragon which will clean up the screen and which will even be able to destroy certain parts of the decor. Under these rubble, you may find passages to dangerous and colorless areas that you will be forced to cross at a run ...
It must be recognized that the difficulty is not very strong in this episode and with the ladle it will not take you much more than five hours to recover the different parts of the ship. The challenge only really happens when you go hunting for all the little cogs scattered across the different levels. This meticulous collection will allow you to unlock a host of challenges that can turn out to be full-bodied and even a few mini-games consisting of sending ninja stars to targets or playing pigeon shooting in front of strange robots. You begin to understand that this episode offers the most reasonable content and yet we have not even touched on what really makes it rich: multiplayer. Indeed, if the title is perfectly playable solo, you can invite up to 3 friends at any time to give you a hand. These will play as a clone of Kirby, Meta Knight, Waddle Dee and King Dedede. They all have a very specific grip which brings a good dose of diversity to the gameplay. The different players can also interact to help each other: it is not only possible to take a colleague on his back or give him big kisses so that he benefits from the food harvested, but some group attacks are also really devastating. In short, you will understand, Kirby's Adventure Wii is certainly classic but it is not less a real treat which especially finds its flavor when it is played together. It is therefore an ideal title for all parents who would like to play in cooperation with their children ...
The notes
Graphics 16/20
Do not expect to fall backwards by discovering the graphics of Kirby's Adventure Wii: the whole is much more classic and certainly less daring than Au Fil de l'Aventure. The fact remains that the rendering is clean and that it easily manages to transport us to the colorful and enchanted world of Kirby.
Gameplay 16/20
Don't expect a challenge like a New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Donkey Kong Country Returns. The difficulty here remains very relative and the action never becomes frantic. This Kirby's Adventure Wii has obviously been designed so that young and old alike can find their way. We still find with pleasure the gameplay that had already proven itself in other episodes of the series.
Lifespan 15/20
The adventure may seem short at first but the serious things begin when one seeks to recover all the cogs scattered here and there and to take up the different challenges. It really takes all its interest when you invite friends to join you for cooperative parties that are not short on salt.
Soundtrack 15/20
Music plays its role wonderfully by inviting your ears into the excessively cute world of Kirby.
Scenario/
Make no mistake, Kirby's Adventure Wii is not as visually revolutionary and as adorable as Au Fil de l'Aventure, it remains an excellent episode of the series. He will be able to reconcile the fans of the license who hoped for a homecoming and the young audience who will find there a rich and varied adventure. Attention, if the experience is very pleasant alone, it really takes all its interest when it is played by several in cooperation.
