Can I trust WhatsApp

The most common scams on WhatsApp

Scams plague the WhatsApp messaging service, but is it true that WhatsApp is going to introduce a legal age limit? We describe what is a scam and what is not.

The scams on WhatsApp have been used for the most part for innocent reasons. In fact, they were like the digital equivalent of the chain letters.

But today, scams on WhatsApp are more and more unpleasant. Especially when they steal your personal data or install malware on your device.

You have to remember that WhatsApp is free. It is an instant messaging app that lets you send photos and videos, and create group chats.

1. You must be 16 years old to use WhatsApp

Unfortunately, this one is not a scam. In fact, it is true - although, we imagine, difficult to control.

This is all due to GDPR. In fact, WhatsApp has confirmed the enforcement of the regulations. it has therefore amended its privacy policy and terms of service in response.

The change will only apply in the EU and the age limit will remain at 13 elsewhere.

Aer Lingus free flight

Aer Lingus has issued a warning to customers in Ireland. He made them aware of a new scam that tries to trick users into clicking on a questionable link offering free flights.

This is not a genuine offer, and the messages are not from Aer Lingus. If you receive such a message, ignore it and avoid forwarding it to your contacts.

3. Request to transfer your number

The most recent WhatsApp scam involves the following text message:

You have requested to transfer your number to another device.
This change will be made within 24 hours. If you haven't made this request, call 0902 394 1246.
This is a scam: do not call the number. It's a paid number, and it will cost you dearly.

In fact, you don't need to request to transfer your number to another device on WhatsApp. If you want to do this, you just have to download the free WhatsApp application on this device and verify your phone number.

From this point on, the application on your old device stops working.

4. Free £ / € 250 voucher

One of the most common WhatsApp scams is the one that involves the promise of a free gift card.

You can receive offers of £ 250 for Sainsbury, M&S, Tesco and Asda. The M&S version is shown here.

Even the most savvy WhatsApp users have fallen for this scam. In fact, who doesn't want a £ / € 250 voucher?

Either way, what's the worst that can happen, right? Good…

Clicking on the link takes you to a survey page that asks you to answer various personal questions. This investigation has absolutely nothing to do with the supermarket, and everything to do with the theft of your data.

You might think you are doing your friends a favor by forwarding them, but you really aren't.
