3d bomb alley game  worms 3d

Test: Worms 3D
If, like me, you have spent many hours in the company of the most belligerent maggots in the universe, then you will surely be impatient to find them in a brand new version which opens the doors of 3D to them.

It is indeed with great pleasure that we resume news of our famous Worms. Apparently, for them nothing has changed, they still spend most of their time bickering and solving their differences with bazookas and grenades! Sacred little worms, they will never change! So much the better in a way, because that's why we love them. For their stupidity, their aggressiveness and their confrontations without tail or head which characterizes each of the episodes released since 1995, date of their first appearance.

The concept has therefore not moved a pixel. Whether alone or with others (turn-based, LAN or online), you manage your fine earthworm team with the firm intention of grilling opponent's earthworms. On each game turn, the player has 60 seconds to do whatever he wants with his maggot. He can move it at leisure, or order him to take a more constructive action, such as testing the enemy's resistance to a mortar or shotgun fire, or teaching him to sink in the water that surrounds each environment. As in the previous edition, after each action, the turn ends almost immediately and leaves you just two or three seconds, just enough time to hide elsewhere.

With the transition to 3D, it is no surprise that the drilling functions that allowed the most fearful players to bury themselves while patiently waiting for the end of the game have disappeared. Indeed, it is easy to understand that the management of three-dimensional galleries would have been unmanageable. To compensate for this loss, Worms 3D offers us a brand new practical jetpack to reach the top of the cliffs in less than two! The rest of the equipment continues the great tradition of the series with diverse and varied equipment. For weapons, bazooka, anti-personnel mines, uzi, blowgun, baseball bat, fragmentation grenade, banana bomb, or explosive grandmother, we find the great classics of Worms. The same goes for accessories that include the famous ninja rope, beam or teleportation. Those who already know the series will not be really disoriented.

Where they may not find their favorite worms is in the handling. Since the game is no longer in 2D but in 3D, we no longer direct our soldiers as before. From now on, the view is in the third person, the camera being placed directly in the back in your maggot. Casually, this detail changes everything to the pleasure of play. Already, we have a lot of trouble with the camera which blocks against the walls and which has the annoying habit of changing angles as soon as our verse descends from a step. The other big problem comes from the distances that we can no longer appreciate as easily as before. There is indeed an aerial view which allows you to have an overview, but nothing comparable to the good old profile view of the old episodes. Because of this, the shots are less precise and fall one time in ten next. Too bad the game encounters such maneuverability concerns because of the implementation issue, the transition to 3D is quite successful. The design of the earthworms is simply brilliant, their attitudes and expressions are twisted and their voices always so funny! Hopefully a patch will correct this ... in the meantime, I'm a little disappointed.

The notes
Graphics 14/20
From edition to edition, earthworms are becoming more and more sympathetic thanks to their design which is both simple and downright funny. In 3D, the series is all the more beautiful with notably pretty explosions and a multitude of very colorful environments.

Gameplay 12/20
Ouch! Even being a big fan of the series, you can hardly find your bearings with the new dimension. The appreciation of the distances and the direction of the wind, the detection of the worms hidden behind obstacles, or the camera which panics quite frequently, all elements which highlight the weaknesses of the playability.

Lifespan 16/20
Alone, you can try out a succession of missions and training sessions. That said, better to play with others, that's where we realize all the addictive nature of this title.

Soundtrack 14/20
Always playful, the soundtrack contrasts completely with the violence of the confrontations. The sound effects are good and the voices irresistible!

I expected a lot of 3D Worms. Unfortunately, the uninviting handling was enough to curb my heat. Too bad, I would have liked to spend a few sleepless nights in the land of maggots as in the good old days ...
