Wasteland 2: Director's Cut Nintendo Switch Review

Wasteland 2 (Switch)
The Nintendo console is entitled in turn to the excellent RPG by Inxile Entertainment.

The latest Nintendo console has become the faithful companion for players on the go. Of those who like to play everywhere at home freely, and of those who have to endure many hours of journey in transport. This is largely thanks to its vast and varied toy library, which is constantly expanding with major third-party productions. Already offering jewels such as Doom, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus or L.A. Noire, the selection is growing with a new major work. The CRPG Wasteland 2 is indeed officially launched on the hybrid console, offering a new chance to those who missed it on PC, PS4 and Xbox One to catch their error.

Created by the brain behind Fallout, Brian Fargo, this old school RPG places the player in a post-apocalyptic world, in the lands of the states of California, Arizona and Nevada. After training your avatar with proposed models or by shaping it with the character editor with very advanced options, you will be promoted to rangers of the desert. Your first mission is then to go investigate the death of a veteran colleague.

As said above, Wasteland 2 offers a very high level of customization. The choices made when creating the character should be carefully considered. They will strongly impact your gameplay and the possibilities available to you. Each skill will shape your adventure in a unique way and, if it is impressive during a first session, it provides an incomparable replayability with new courses for each combination of characteristics.

From the start of the game, you will meet your first possible companion, Angela Deth, one of the colorful characters who will mark your adventure. Each of these potential accomplices can be recruited, dismissed or killed depending on the decisions made.

The well-written dialogues add a real plus to the immersion. Like all other aspects of Wasteland 2, most of them will involve moral choices with far-reaching consequences. But neither are they blameless; despite their capital importance, they are indeed difficult to read, regardless of the console, even if the problem is greatly accentuated in portable mode on Switch. It is better to pay attention to dubbing because it will be difficult to know how to progress otherwise.

But the whole adventure is not just a matter of verbal exchanges, and you will sometimes have to use force. The fights in this version are just as excellent as those of other platforms. The tactical components, such as the exploitation of the ground for an advantageous positioning or the safety of your injured rangers, are always galvanizing. The clashes are interesting because they never go the same way. We were also pleasantly surprised by their fluidity on the hybrid console, as for all the rest of the experience, apart from a few drops of framerate.

The game will not only require your attention during the main quest, dialogues and battles: it will require constant concentration. Keep this in mind during your trips, because Wasteland 2 easily sucked you into its adventure thanks to the exceptional quality of its experience, whether it is your first meeting or an umpteenth part ...
