street fighter iv review
Ultra Street Fighter 4A little less than two years after the Arcade Edition, Capcom does it again with Ultra Street Fighter 4, a title of Versus Fighting long awaited by communities of players. It is therefore high time to see what this umpteenth iteration has to offer.
Expected as the most elaborate version to date of the 4th installment of the legendary series, this Ultra version offers us in addition to additional characters, mostly already seen, new stages, some crisp features, but above all a licked rebalancing of the characteristics and shots of a lot of characters. So let's see this in detail.
ROSTER + 5
First, let's dwell on the exclusive characters of this Ultra version. They are 5 in number and respond to the sweet names of Elena, Rolento, Hugo, Poison and Decapre. And if the last does not tell you anything, it is because it is playable for the first time, unlike the 4 others who have already had their heyday on Final Fight, Street Fighter 3. In terms of styles game, everyone has their own specialty, and everyone will have their favorite in the lot. We note all the same that some characters require more technical mastery than others, like Decapre and its cancellable aerial attacks, or Elena who must manage her distances well and above all put on zoning to be formidable. Hugo, on the other hand, appears like a real thick brute chaining the mugs and the mandals, if we can get into the timing. All these characters have their own story, which is set up through Arcade mode as usual, illustrated by mini-animated films of varying quality. With a roster now reaching 44 characters, this Ultra Street 4 fulfills its role in terms of casting, it remains to be seen whether the additional features are also level!APPRECIABLE FEATURES
You probably know it, who says new version says rebalancing a lot of things, life, attacks, damage, time of triggering of blows, in short, the slightest imperfection is reviewed and discussed again from the next iteration taking into account the return of the players. For this version, Capcom has decided to make it big since not only a bunch of characters have been affected by the rebalancing, but in addition, it is now possible to select which version of your fighter you want to take before a match. An extremely useful feature, which allows many to rediscover certain characters. In terms of additional features and modes, we can also cite online training to practice against a geographically distant human, or Elimination mode, which allows to form teams of 3 and to fight online against an equivalent team. A K.-O. is replaced by another member of his team, who will have to face the winner who offers himself a little recovery at his health bar.MORE ACCESSIBLE AND MORE TECHNICAL AT BOTH
More subtle but just as important, two new products are arriving: the Red Focus and the Delayed Standing. The second allows you to have some control over the timing to get up, as for the first, it offers a lot of opportunities to place the ultras with increased ease. It will cost you a few bars of EX but the result will be there. For example, you can easily combine with Blanka to release the second ultra during a sequence with a RedFocus combo, or find your own variants, playing at the same time on the deferred absorption power of the Focus. Speaking of ultra, this version of Street 4 allows us to choose the configuration I, II, or W, which allows to trigger the I or the II according to the strategy in force during the game. Obviously, this choice implies less powerful damage during a trigger. Note that the title is available as a DLC for owners of Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4, and Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, and will also be released in a boxed version. The notes
+ Positive points
Still as good despite the years
The rebalancing of a lot of characters
The 5 new fighters who will convince amateurs and pros (especially with the great potential of Decapre)
Elimination mode
RedFocus, ideal for taking out ultras
The choice of version
Delayed Standing which enriches mindgame
-Negative points
Lots of Street Fighter X Tekken recycling (characters, stages, modes)
With a fairly substantial addition of content and quality rebalances, this version of Street Fighter 4 stands out as a very good update of a title with qualities repeatedly verified. Adding 5 characters (including one playable for the very first time), 6 arenas (all from Street Fighter X Tekken), 3 features, 2 modes and a lot of nerve / up, we are seized by the effectiveness of the mixture, even if the originality of the additions remains questionable in the end.
